An image on the official Uncharted: Golden Abyss Japanese website seems to reveal that online play will not be featured in the PS VITA's blockbuster title.
On the official Japanese website for Uncharted: Golden Abyss, you can see a small box that shows details for the game. and under online play, theres a big fat NO.
Also you have to keep in mind that this is not a firm confirmation, as it could just be a placeholder. And if you check the American version of the website under online play it says "NA" (not announced)
Per contra, since the American website does not show anything, multiplayer in Uncharted: Golden Abyss is still a possibility. (but its quite unlikely)

Together with a great story and phenomenal gameplay mechanics Uncharted: Golden Abyss even without multiplayer is still perhaps THE best launch title for the PS VITA. No where else can you get a better 3rd person experience.
Also Sony are probably waiting for games like COD PS VITA and Resistance: Burning Skies to lead the way for portable multiplayer games. And looking at the PS VITA's OS, Wi-Fi and 3G capabilities. And online service identical (perhaps better) than PS3's Playstation Network.
And does anybody really purchase the game for the online? No?.... thats what i thought..
