Why you should be excited for Project Phoenix

A collaborative project with some big names in the gaming industry speaks of good things to come for gamers, including PS Vita owners. More inside!

Project Phoenix is a JRPG with a squad based RTS game design, brought to you by veteran developers and creators from the East and West. It currently is being funded by a Kickstarter.

This game is primarily a single player game. There are ideas for multiplayer and co-op modes but only if the multiplayer stretch goal is achieved on Kickstarter.

This is technically an indie project, but take a look at some of the contributors to it. Credits include several Final Fantasies, The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, Valkyria Chronicles, L.A. Noire, Diablo III, Halo 4, Crysis 3, and much more.

There is beautiful art, cool world maps, deep character classes... It all seems to be the making of an instant classic. Now, the question is, will this definitely be out for the Vita and PS4?

"Currently we are in negotiations to have our game released on the PS4 and the PSVITA. The negotiations are still ongoing and we are 90% certain we will be able to release on these wonderful devices."

Sounds great that they'd bring out a title that will be playable on the Vita, and not just on the remote play function via a PS4. Thanks guys!

The Kickstarter is only for $100,000, not a large amount for a quality game. What is their reasoning?

"...each of our members are professionals in their own field, they do not require a salary right now, and so, are donating their time and effort into developing Project Phoenix. Their reward will come in the fans’ evaluation of the game and a %-based royalty of all sales."

Aww! But the real need for the money comes from the need to do 3D modeling.

As with all Kickstarters, there are levels of investment (and they already reached the initial level...in less than 9 hours!). What you should be concerned with is that for only $20, you can secure a digital copy of the game when it releases in mid 2015. So right about the time when Star Wars: Episode Lens Flare, is coming out. It may be a time before it hits, but seems like it could be worth it.
