The Soulkind Awakening, a Fantasy Novel by Steve Davala ~ PS Vita Hub

After lying dormant for a thousand years, the Soulkind awaken. Many step forward to claim the magic from these nearly fotgotten artifacts, but childhood dreams quickly fade under the harsh reality of their return. Who will wield the Soulkind and who must watch helplessly as magic lies forever out of reach? Who will their power corrupt? What unforeseen dangers will they bring?

Jace and his friends stumble through these questions as they try to find their way in a world where the Soulkind Awakening changes everything they know.

Jace has a unique skill. Whenever something happens in his life worth remembering, be it a person, a lesson he learned, or just something he doesn't want to forget, he picks up a stone. Later, when he simply touches that stone, he relives the memory as if he were there again. For one particular stone, for some reason, he has no memory of how he picked it up.

This characterization came from personal experience. I traveled to Prague once, and at a spot right over the Charles Bridge I reached down and picked up a stone. I didn't think much of it and put it in my jacket pocket. It wasn't until three months after I returned to the States that I found the stone, and as soon as I touched it, there I was back on the bridge. That seed was planted in my head and soon the story idea for the Soulkind Awakening started to grow.

My background

I'm a middle school science teacher of 14 years and I've always loved to write (and play video games, of course). I always knew I had a story inside to tell, and The Soulkind Awakening is just the beginning of all that. The audience for the story is young adult. I wrote it both keeping in mind I was writing for a younger audience but also that I had to like what I was writing... so an older crowd will enjoy it, as well. Check out some reviews on Amazon.

The Soulkind Awakening is available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle formats. If you have Amazon Prime you can borrow the Kindle version for free! Book Two, The Shadow of the Soulkind, is nearing its completion, but it won't be available until the end of 2014.
